Säkularisierung und die Veränderungsdynamiken religiöser Organisation

The Catholic Church in Germany is facing great challenges. The loss of pastors, declining membership and lack of participation in church activities increase organizational insecurity and put pressure on the dioceses, while at the same time the still increasing church tax revenues stabilize the organization. In three case studies, this research sheds light on the different change actions of the dioceses of Freiburg (organizational restabilization), Munich and Freising (organizational professionalization), and Trier (spiritual democratization). The comparison distills key factors influencing negotiation processes and develops a model which shows that the variance can be explained by the differing professional socialization of leadership personnel.
