Description
This volume, based on a conference held on 10 and 11 October 2023 at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences, provides an overview of the topic of joint rule or condominia, focusing on medieval and early modern cities of the Old Empire. Whereas a regional approach has tended to be taken in the study of condominia to date, this volume focuses on a comparative analysis of the effects on cities and their inhabitants in different regions of the Empire. Concrete examples are also used to examine the political framework and legal options for joint rule of the town.
