Municipal housing companies face the challenge of pursuing three key objectives simultaneously: 1. creating affordable housing, 2. constructing and using buildings in an environmentally friendly manner, and 3. achieving a minimum level of economic efficiency.
As these objectives influence each other, they are difficult to reconcile. A novel, holistic building energy system planning approach for neighborhoods can help. This approach uses a simulation and evaluation tool to bundle component-related knowledge in a transparent and structured manner to create a climate-friendly and affordable overall solution. Since structural and energy concepts are comprehensively examined and evaluated, a basis for decision-making in the event of conflicts of interest is also provided.
