Several unresolved social and political challenges have engendered suffering and illness. Social problems have become an issue in medical ethics. Medication is being prescribed or psychological therapy recommended in cases where sociopolitical intervention is necessary. What we are dealing with is a high mortality rate as a consequence of social exclusion and discrimination plus an imperial way of life.
This book explains the phenomenology of suffering as the foundations of empathetic ethics and reveals ways for social ethics to intervene to prevent illness, suffering and death on a huge scale, which are needed particularly urgently at the moment as a result of the coronavirus crisis. The book also highlights courses of action that Christians and their milieus can take in this respect.
