Staatsverständnisse
Description
The contributions in this volume do not so much insist on the French idea of the state as such, but stress those powers which question its conception of itself, thus showing that the unitary republican citoyenneté it promotes in the realms of theory and reality is not as unproblematic as it seems.
The first part, dedicated to the question of the relationship between the state and religion, begins with a discussion of the polemics at the time of Philippe le Bel, continues with an analysis of Rousseau’s religion civile and ends with two contributions on the debate within French liberalism in the 19th century.
The three contributions in the second part deal with institutional (parlements in the Ancien Régime and judges) and extra-institutional (unions) oppositional forces to the legislative and executive powers.
The three contributions in the third part deal with categories generally found on the periphery of politics (the stranger, the woman and the slave) which were difficult to integrate.
With contributions by
Norbert Campagna, Dagmar Comtesse, Oliver Eberl, Skadi Siiri Krause, Franziska Martinsen, Jochen Schwenk

Reviews
Dr. phil. Jan Christoph Suntrup, NPL 65/2020, 185
