Strabon von Amaseia

Strabon of Amaseia, contemporary of the emperors Augustus and Tiberius, considered himself a Stoic philosopher. He wrote an extensive account of history and a geography. Only his geographical work has survived. It is extensive, complex and varied in content. In it, Strabon leads us through the entire inhabited world known at the time - from the Iberian Peninsula in the west to India in the east, from Britain in the north to Aithiopia in the south. Strabon's geography does not focus on the composition of the earth, but on human beings - it is a cultural geography that he wrote.
