Strabone e il teatro

This volume focuses on quotations from dramatic works, both tragedies and comedies, in Strabo’s ‘Geography’. It presents a comprehensive catalogue of these citations and an analysis of their features and possible related textual and content-based issues; it explores Strabo’s role in the indirect transmission of ancient texts alongside the possible sources on which he draws, be these ancient editions of the plays or florilegia. Lastly, the study assesses the use of dramatic quotations in the specific contexts in which they occur, thus casting more light on the function of each quotation and Strabo’s literary art.
