Strategische Klagen gegen die öffentliche Beteiligung (SLAPPS)

Attacks against critical voices are constantly finding new forms, most recently the Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP). This dissertation discusses the implementation of the EU's SLAPP Directive in Germany and its fundamental rights framework.

In addition to defining SLAPPS and distinguishing them from other attempts at intimidation, it examines the tension between freedom of communication on the one hand and the right to effective legal protection on the other.

Freedom of expression does not protect against criticism. On the occasion of the investigation of SLAPPS, the work fundamentally examines the question of what follows from this and what criticism the participants in the discourse must concede and endure.
