Description
This book contains the contributions of the conference "Studying Europe. Challenges and Prospects for European Studies" which took place at the University of Bremen in April 1999. The objective is to give floor for the exchange of experiences and ideas for the development of European Studies, be they part of basic or post-graduate studies at universities in and outside the EU.
Emphasis is put on an European audience of scholars, lecturers and librarians being involved in the organisation and development of courses in European Studies in law, political or social sciences. At the core the "European Curriculum", seen as the set of themes and topics in European Studies and the academic practice and research in teaching – also in a transnational and new information technologies perspective – is discussed.
In spite of the complexity and variety of the various courses and post-graduate studies it is common sense, that a more and more interdisciplinary and focussed approach is one of the future aspects for European Studies.
