Description
How can theater bring hurtful language to the stage without merely repeating its discriminatory effects? This volume explores this question based on Judith Butler’s theory of linguistic violence and its recontextualization. Drawing on five theatrical productions, it analyzes the aesthetic strategies through which hurtful language is transformed on stage and how its effects can change. It becomes clear that these effects are neither fully controllable nor clearly predictable. For theater studies, this highlights the need for methodological reflection on how linguistic harm can be examined without unintentionally reenacting its violence.
