Description
In its twelfth Telecommunications Sector Report (2021), the Monopolies Commission presents recommendations on how competition at the network level and the service level can be fostered to the benefit of end users. It advocates a competition-oriented transition from copper to fiber-optic networks. This can be achieved by keeping copper-based wholesale charges stable in real terms until the end of the migration process. Mobile spectrum should be granted by means of an auction. . At this time, the Commission rejects any interoperability obligations for internet based communication services such as WhatsApp, Signal, Threema and Wire.
