With the enactment of the Third Law to Amend the Nationality Act in 2019, the loss of nationality in Germany was linked to participation in terrorist combat operations abroad according to Art. 28 (1) No. 2 of the Nationality Act (StAG). The first part of the book reveals the international legal issues associated with this new provision regarding the loss of nationality and examines its compatibility with the European Convention on Nationality and the European Convention on Human Rights. The second part questions the regulatory purpose of the provision and highlights that it is based on an exclusive understanding of citizenship.
