The work deals with the professional socialization of military officers in Europe, with the purpose to determine the extent to which value orientations and ethical conceptions typical of professional officers are due to the educational process undergone by individuals before entering military academies, and the extent to which military educational institutions have an impact as secondary socialization agencies. The book introduces the result of an empirical research on the topic, carried out in 10 European countries. The argument is subdivided for research areas, every one edited by one (ore more) out of the scholars who have carried on the survey. The work supplies an important collection of comparative data on the formative process of the officers and is turned mainly to a public of active duty officers, politicians, scholars (but also students) of social sciences. The oneness of this work renders it important also for a historical comparison with subsequent researches that will carried out on the topic. The author is a military sociologist, President of the Research Committee on Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution of the ISA, member of several international organizations of research.
