Description
This digest presents study results obtained in the framework of the European Research Group on Military and Society (ERGOMAS). The studies deal with changes and transition appearances of military in Europe and, social changes in different countries forming the background, they describe the increasing efforts to change the organization forms of the armed forces aimed at a transition, in the tend of a growing professionalization, from the classic compulsory army to a professional one. The growing challenges on the soldiers‘ instruction coming along with this process are as well represented as the changing professional image of the soldier that has to stand his ground in the mass-media not always well disposed towards the military.
The studies in this digest cover a large scale of present-day military-oriented sociological research in Europe, reflecting the opinions expressed by renowned scientists from five countries, and they are intended for all those interested in military problems.
