Description
This volume addresses the diverse problems associated with the geopolitical concept of an Indo-Pacific region. The first part discusses key theoretical approaches, the second part deals with the involvement of major powers from within and outside the region (the United States, China, the EU, Russia, India), and the third part presents the perspective of countries that can be classified as Indo-Pacific in the narrower geographical sense. Overall, the volume argues that the era of bi- or even unipolar world orders that shaped international politics from 1945 to 2001 has now definitively come to an end. The international system is aligning itself with a new kind of complexity—most notably in what is probably the most important region of the world today: the Indo-Pacific.
