Description
The areas of conflict in the trade policy between the EU and the USA are not only an encumbrance of the bilateral relations but even hinder a further liberalisation within the WTO.
International experts discussed this problem at the conference of the HWWA Institute for Economic Research in May 1998. The topic got an impressing importance by an initiative of Sir Leon Brittan, former Vice-President of the European Commission, who in March 1998 formally presented concrete proposals for a new round of trade negotiations between the EU and the United States.
The papers entailed in this volume were presented at the conference and analyse the fields of conflict in the trade policy and show attempts of settlement by bilateral solutions. Above all it is dealt with high technology and industrial policies, agriculture and service trade.
The volume is addressed to all economists and politicians interested in issues of trade policy.
