Transformationen einer Polizei

This anthology illuminates the history of Saxony’s criminal police and its State Criminal Police Office (Landeskriminalamt) during the four political system changes that occurred in Germany during the 20th century: in 1918, 1933, 1945 and 1989/90.
Police history as a history of transformation focuses on times of upheaval and on continuity and disruption in the transition of the institution and its actors from one political system to the next. What active role did the criminal police play in enforcing the two dictatorships in the Nazi state and the GDR? And after their fall, how did the successor states deal with the personnel taken over from the dictatorships? This book combines interdisciplinary perspectives from history, political science and sociology.
