Description
The volume uses the double meaning of the French word 'genre' to discuss transgressions of genre and gender boundaries in (Franco-) Maghrebian literatures of the immediate present (since 1990) from an interdisciplinary perspective (gender studies, literary studies, sociology).
The eight contributions (on H. Cixous, Rachid O., F. Daas and others) not only reveal the often unspoken taboos and prohibitions (l'interdit) that reinforce the heteronormative order. It also becomes clear to what extent aesthetic practices (including genre hybridisation, intertextuality, etc.), in the sense of a politically understood "langagement" or "queering", allow the subversion of this order: The procedures allow the forbidden (l'interdit) to be inscribed in the interstices of the text ('l'inter-dit'), which at the same time means (re)gaining agency.
