Description
This study is devoted to a systematic reconstruction and defense of Immanuel Kant’s justification of morality, as it is developed in particular in the third chapter of the „Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals“. The central question is how Kant deduces the validity of the categorical imperative and to what extent this deduction is to be understood as an essential component of his transcendental philosophy. Criticisms of Kant’s moral philopsophy are resolved by an analysis of the justification strategy and a consideration of the connection between theoretical and practical philosophy.
The work is aimed at researchers, teachers and advanced students of philosophy, especially Kant studies, ethics and classical German philosophy.
