The present volume addresses key issues in current language and translation research, focusing on the expert-lay dichotomy and the concepts of knowledge transfer and skill acquisition. These topics are particularly relevant in today’s information society, as traditional roles, such as those between experts and laypeople or producers and recipients, are becoming increasingly dynamic. They seem to apply only to a small area of communication practice: Expertise, which seeks to be communicated, must first be established through the reception of knowledge and practical experience within the specific field. Its demonstration entails both potential and dangers.
