Description
Variety linguistics and sociolinguistics examine the diverse manifestations, or varieties, of a language and its use and mutability in a social context. The introduction illustrates this spatial, situational, social, and temporal variations of a language and their interaction, using the German language and the German-speaking cultural sphere as an example. The chapters focus on individual varieties and languages – such as Middle High German, Upper Silesian, Petuh, or Yiddish. Additionally, the introduction briefly addresses selected methods in applied linguistics, making it suitable for students of cultural and linguistic studies, as well as for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of language and its contexts.
