Kollektivbiografische Studie zur Geschichte Sozialer Arbeit
Nomos, 1. Edition 2026, ca. 540 Pages
Description
Most female social workers in Vienna during Austrofascism and National Socialism remained obedient to the regime. Many of their colleagues were disenfranchised, dismissed, forced to flee or exterminated, and only a minority was active in the resistance. Using 80 exemplary biographies of politically and racially persecuted social workers, the study analyses their private and professional networks, institutional exclusion processes and forms of knowledge transfer into exile. Based on biographical research, historical contextualisation and sources that have been made accessible for the first time, the professional history is enriched by marginalised and previously overlooked actors - as a contribution to a plural, intersectional and critical history of social work in Austria.
