Description
This thesis examines the current and future applications of the emerging technology of virtual reality (VR) in criminal investigations, intermediate proceedings, and main proceedings. Building on the fundamentals of VR, various potential applications — such as crime scene and crime sequence reconstructions — are evaluated in terms of their technical feasibility, achievable added value, potential risks, and admissibility under criminal procedure law. The thesis also addresses the use of VR representations as evidence and as a subject of evidentiary evaluation. VR technology has the potential to become a standard tool for fact-finding in criminal proceedings.
