Description
Virtually-based applications represent an innovative approach to the treatment of various diseases associated with chronic or acute pain. Phantom limb pain is a pain phenomenon that is still poorly understood.
Using an integrative literature review, Nico Schmitt analyzes ten studies in which participants provide information about their perception of pain before, after and/or during an application that stimulates virtual reality. Schmitt sees great potential in VR: Optimizing the technological possibilities could lead to an effective and tolerable form of therapy in the future to treat phantom limb pain and improve pain management.
