Description
Why does the architectural logic of the Internet require the incorporation of legal normativity into technical practices? In order to come to terms with this question, the book focuses primarily on Internet intermediaries and their programming. The architecture of the network enables the emergence of new private actors whose standards and regulatory capabilities bind not only themselves but also the states. New programmes are able to bring forth a community of users who can create new rules and practices around the platform, allowing them to elude state control.
It is thus in the programming itself that the interaction between legal normativity and algorithms can be observed. By dint of programmed algorithms, the platform thwarts impermissible publications from becoming destructive to legal systems.
The author’s chief concern in this book has been to bring a sharp focus of attention to the regulation of algorithms on the Internet.
