Wahrscheinlichkeit und Aufklärung

The main aim of the book is to describe the 18th century as the “Century of Probability”. Probability pervades every aspect of the thought and practical life of the Enlightenment. It produces an intellectual and non-dogmatic attitude, and justifies a belief in the potential for perfection and the possibility of a humanisation of reason and certainty. This volume is divided into three parts. The first is dedicated to the hopes and problems surrounding the realisation of a logic of probability from the perspectives of different authors. The second part is concerned with the concept of moral certainty and the triple differentiation of theories. The last part examines the metaphysics of probability based on the work of Leibniz.
