Description
Advance care planning (ACP) has been established by law in nursing homes, and two thirds of all nursing home residents are affected by dementia. It is noteworthy that these people in particular are not given their own modular significance in Germany’s ACP concept.
Twelve people with dementia were interviewed at two points in time using a modified value anamnesis. The qualitative analysis of these interviews focused on the perspective of attachment to life as a concept through which ACP could be expanded.
In this respect, the modified value anamnesis proved to be highly applicable, and it was possible to identify significantly more aspects which supported rather than inhibited the interviewees’ attachment to life. Therefore, expanding the concept of ACP to include this perspective seems appropriate.
