The way we meet others depends heavily on our existential core beliefs. Based on the anthropological considerations of Helmuth Plessner, Heidemarie Bennent-Vahle develops a special approach to interpersonal engagement in philosophical practical work. Taking up Plessner's idea of the unfathomability of human existence, she problematizes the current primarily solution-oriented ways of thinking. This is combined with reflections on the social constitution of people in cultural diversity, on the question of human dignity, on the vulnerability and endangerment of the individual, and finally on the possibilities of humorous self-relativization. She takes valuable suggestions for an ethos of philosophical practice from Plessner's behavioral ethics of tact.
