Werke: Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué: Ausgewählte Dramen und Epen

At the age of 51, Friedrich Baron de la Motte Fouqué wrote a first autobiography belatedly for his 50th birthday (1828). The text, published in a small edition in 1930 by Hans Kasten as a "Bremer Liebhaber-Druck", is all but lost today. It is therefore all the more welcome that in the present volume 19 of the Werkausgabe Fouqués (Abt. II) both the Bremen edition and a typewritten copy by Erich Schilder from 1949 are now made accessible to readers again. This autobiographical writing is supplemented by the "Lebensgeschichte" of the ageing Fouqué, published in 1840, which presents many things differently from the work "zum Halbhundert". Both texts present Fouqué "on the way"; the second monograph from 1840 is also the document of a forgotten man who wants to remember his own "fame".
