This thesis examines the legal framework established by copyright law for the use of works as training and input data for artificial neural networks (AI). It thus addresses highly pressing and practical questions. For example, it clarifies whether AI training can be conducted without the author's consent and which requirements must be met for a 'machine-readable' reservation of rights. The use of works as prompts for generative AI systems is also examined. Additionally, the author reflects on the future of copyright law: In what direction should the legal system evolve? How can lawmakers engage? The thesis offers some specific regulatory suggestions.
