Description
This edition of source material begins by setting out the historical and critical context surrounding the conductor and musicologist Peter Raabe (1872–1945). In 1935, he willingly accepted the post of President of the Reich Chamber of Music, with the primary aim of promoting the orchestral scene from this position. At the same time, in this role he was responsible, amongst other things, for ensuring compliance with the racial laws in musical life.

His book centres on bar-by-bar analyses of all the symphonies by Beethoven and Brahms, as well as orchestral works by Mozart, Schubert and Weber. Drawing on his wealth of experience, which was as artistic as it was scholarly, Raabe devised an instructive format that is unique in its conceptual approach.
