The volume delves into key issues concerning the balance between patient welfare and the financial constraints of Germany’s statutory health insurance system (GKV). It sheds light on how the tension between evidence-based medicine and emerging innovations, whose effectiveness may not yet be fully substantiated, can be managed. The focus is on permissible deviations from the mandate of scientifically proven effectiveness and the constitutional rights of the insured individuals.
