The supervisory board of a public limited company regards knowledge as a crucial resource for the fulfilment of its tasks. It is therefore important to ensure that the relevant knowledge, which is usually generated outside the board, reaches the board and its members. Knowledge organisation, in the form of a set of rules for dealing with knowledge, serves to systematically ensure such knowledge transfer and to overcome existing knowledge asymmetries. The legal requirements in this respect are rudimentary, so that the supervisory board is required to establish a knowledge organisation in the form of rules of procedure for the management board and itself.
