This book shows how economic actors in the formative phase of the discipline organised, researched, discussed and communicated experience, in short: how they practised experience.
Drawing on Ludwik Fleck's analysis of thinking styles, the book describes experience in its many modes and uses: it is itself part of economic rationality and acts as a hinge between the dualisms of theory and empiricism, rationality and emotionality, and objectivity and subjectivity. Experience thus becomes the motor of the emergence and development of modern economics.
