Ontologically, humans are to be understood as ‘homo habitans’ in terms of their dwelling. Phenomenologically, humans are then predisposed to the possibility of self-transcendence in light of the ‘conditio humana’. ‘Hodologically’, this involves the movement from the oikos via the polis as a social space of encounter to the cosmos of the natural context as an experiential experience.
This potential for personal maturation must be understood in an interdisciplinary manner in view of human vulnerability and the existential nature of concern. The empirical findings on the social reality of coping with existence as understood in this way must be critically assessed against legal-philosophical and ethical standards.
