In the essays in this book, the author traces structures of time as a factor in shaping choreographies. How do concepts and bodily experiences of temporality intertwine in the production, performance and perception of a dance piece? And in what way is the tension between ephemerality and duration, between past and future, the basis and expressive form of dance practice? In this book, theories and philosophies of time are read from the process of dance, with the persistence of historical reflection and the layering of history stored in archives and cultural memory being key concepts in its analysis. The author focuses on dance and choreography in modernism and contemporary dance.
