Description
This study pursues a genuinely interdisciplinary approach to Raoul Schrott's epic “Erste Erde” (2016) by looking at it from a philological, philosophical and scientific perspective. The focus is on the linguistic and phenomenological constitution of the sublime as an indication of the entanglement of aesthetics, ethics, and natural scientific knowledge. In the book, examples of the linguification of modern physical and deeper mathematical insights within the epic are analysed.
On the one hand, this leads to a new theory about the emergence of the sublime in the context of scientific knowledge and the origin of its relevance for humans. On the other hand, the approach of conveying scientific knowledge within an epic is evaluated. Eventually, this analysis illustrates the coherence of form and content within Schrott's magnum opus.
