Zweierlei Maß

This is the first study to evaluate burden equalisation proceedings concerning economic assets that were able to be acquired by Germans on Polish territory at the beginning of WWII. In particular, a comparison of the proceedings between buyers of assets acquired during the Nazi era on the one hand and Holocaust survivors who were forced to sell their real estate and business assets during this period on the other makes it clear that questions of coercion and violence arose in burden-sharing proceedings, but without having an effect on the decisions. While financial compensation granted the assets of some people their rightful legitimacy, the assets of others were once again destroyed.
