Description
For more than two decades, German-speaking students spent several weeks each summer at the edge of the desert in the city of Beer Sheva to attend the summer university. They learned Hebrew and attended academic lectures and presentations in German in Jewish and Israel Studies, while every Friday students were invited on study visits to archaeological, historical, geological, anthropological, and sociological sites of interest. This volume showcases the fruitful results of this exchange and looks back at a special chapter in German-Israeli knowledge transfer. Consisting of academic articles and essays as well as experience reports and obituaries, it highlights the broad spectrum of topics that shaped the summer university and its participants. A special focus is placed on the Negev and the desert experience.
