This volume is the result of the proceedings of the European Community Studies Association (ECSA) study group on the topic "East Central Europe and the EU: From Europe Agreements to a Member Status in the European Union".
The contributions concentrate on four themes: the role and rule of law as the basis of association and membership; the trends and problems in the implementation of Europe Agreements and in additional elements of adaptation in six of the Central and East European countries which are linked to the European Union by a Europe agreement; the approximation to the general criteria of accession to the Union for Agreement States with a view to the general capacity to take on the obligations of a membership; the European Union"s options for a stable enlargement.
The authors are scientists from East Central European countries and from Member States of the European Union.
