Description
When people are looking for a new orientation, they are often motivated by the excitement of something that is completely different from everyday experience. Exotic ideas of India or Hindu spirituality had a formative effect on the shape and content of new concepts of life and the idea of the "new man". The author analyses the reception of Hindu religiosity and some elements of Indian culture in Germany as a response to religious-spiritual experiences of deficiency and social changes at the end of the 19th and in the 20th century. The guiding themes of reincarnation, vegetarianism, understanding of the body, community and yoga structure the view of the phases of reception.
