Description
In the context of the climate crisis, decarbonisation and energy transition, Latin America is taking on a new geopolitical importance. On the one hand, the region is important as a supplier of so-called critical commodities, without which electric cars, wind turbines and solar panels could not be built. On the other hand, it is increasingly important as a market for green technologies produced in China, the US or Europe. At the same time, Latin America has an abundance of wind, sun and water, all of which are essential for the production of green hydrogen. This mixed situation will fundamentally change the subcontinent. The impending change will create new opportunities, but also new conflicts. This edited volume looks at the future of Latin America through the lens of energy transition, focusing on geopolitical changes, development policy options, conflicts and alternative solutions.
