Description
Ida Dehmel's correspondence with her father, her sister Alice Bensheimer and her niece Marianne Gärtner reflects the many facets of her life. She was the muse, lover and wife of the popular poet Richard Dehmel, as well as a campaigner for gender equality, women's suffrage and women artists. Her commitment to culture led to the founding of the organisation GEDOK in 1926, which still exists today.
The correspondence also shows how Ida Dehmel saved her husband Richard Dehmel's literary estate and looked after his children after his death in 1920. Her Jewish roots, her strong character and her eventful life: the chronological edition of the letters brings a rich biography to life.
