Intertextualität und Quellenrezeption in Julian Apostatas „Caesares“
Griechische und lateinische Vorbilder
Tectum, 1. Edition 2024, 246 Pages
Description
The work ‘Caesares vel Kronia’ by the last pagan Roman emperor Julian the Apostate, written around the turn of the years 362/363 AD, has so far received little attention from modern scholars, despite its interesting content. In particular, the question of which textual sources influenced Julian in writing the work has not yet been conclusively answered. Furthermore, the work raises further questions, especially with regard to the genre of the ‘Caesares’ and its intention. Boris Hogenmüller addresses these questions and seeks answers that should ultimately lead to a revised view of Julian's literary abilities and a fairer judgement of his minor work.
