Description
This study examines the relationship between the letters of the younger Pliny and the poetry of the Neotericists. Pliny, one of the most important Roman writers of the 1st century AD, shows in his letters numerous influences from Neoteric poetry, known for its innovative language and variety of themes. A detailed analysis of style, rhetoric and thematic parallels shows how Pliny adapts and transforms Neoteric techniques and motifs to articulate his own literary and social concerns. The study not only highlights the intertextual references, but also attempts to answer the question of why Pliny had a particular affinity with the Neoterics.
