Israel in deutschen Medien

The study examines the portrayal of Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in German print and online media in 2023. It highlights distortions as well as statements that may lend themselves to antisemitic or racist interpretations or that may reproduce antisemitism. The analysis identifies, among other findings, a strong focus on violence and escalation, the recurrent use of Nazi analogies, a tendency to depict Israel as the sole aggressor, the relativisation of terrorist violence, and a frequent lack of contextualisation, particularly with regard to historical events. These modes of representation can foster one-sided images of Israel, enable antisemitic readings, and reinforce resentments.
