Computer systems are becoming an increasingly prevalent part of children's lives. In her study, Annica Schönfeld uses the Calliope mini as an example to examine the suitability of microcontrollers as a science lesson topic and explores how primary school children experience them. She combines theoretical considerations with an empirical study, evaluating qualitative interviews using phenomenography. These interviews offer valuable insights into the experiences of children, shedding light on their understanding of basic principles of computer technology. This study demonstrates how working with microcontrollers can enhance children's technological understanding and offer them a glimpse into the 'black box'.
