Description
The extensive work of French linguistic theorist, translator and poet Henri Meschonnic (1932–2009) has long been largely overlooked in German-speaking countries. In recent years, however, his poétique du rythme has been receiving renewed attention: Meschonnic's radical critique of the one-sidedness of the semiotic conception of language, his committed advocacy of language as speech, and his readings of literary works oriented towards the rhythm of the texts open up a new perspective on the connection between poetics, translation, ethics and politics.
This volume introduces Meschonnic's fascinating thinking in the form of annotated translations of exemplary excerpts from his complete works. A glossary of key terms rounds off the volume.
