Media intermediaries such as search engine operators or social networks can pose a threat to the free opinion-forming process. They are part of our everyday media lives and act as gatekeepers between content and users. They play a decisive role in determining what information we find on the Internet, and in what order. On the one hand, this volume deals with the question of the extent to which media intermediaries are relevant to opinion formation and what dangers this poses to the free opinion-forming process. On the other hand, it examines whether and how the law finds answers to the risks and developments in this area, and what deficits still exist.
