Description
The French linguist, translator and poet Henri Meschonnic continually returned to the concept of rhythm in his monumental oeuvre. But pensée meschonnicienne, despite some important readings, has not met with much response in (German-language) translation studies. This may be due to Meschonnic’s biting polemics or to the sheer quantity of his work. The author’s stylistic originality, which overtly rejects the traditional concepts of French clarté, has probably also been an obstacle to a wider reception. The essays collected here discuss whether, ten years after his death, Meschonnic’s conception of rhythm can contribute towards a theoretical foundation for translation studies and whether his theorems can be developed and applied to contemporary translation studies.
